Detaching Datastore From ESXi Host
This post describes how to detach datastore/LUN from ESXi host
Step 1:- Make a note of
UID/Device ID of datastore to be removed
Step 2:- Select the ESXi host from Datastore needs to be removed
Step 3: Go to Configuration Tab on the right side Pane
Step 4: Select the storage Tab
Step 5: Select the Datastore to be removed
Note:-1. Ensure that Datastore getting removed is empty and no VMs/ Vmdk’s/Swap files residing on it.
2. Sometimes you would not find the VMs on datastore but if you browse the datastore you may see Orphan VMdks, Swap files/VMX files etc.
Step 6: Select the datastore and do Right click.
Note:- Before Unmounting check that Storage I/O is disabled on that datastore.
Step 7:- Click on Unmount. You will get the following screen and click on ok.
Step 8: Go to Devices Tab (Identify the Datastore using the LUN ID noted in Step 1)
Step 9: Right Click on the selected LUN/Device and click Detach
Step 10: Ensure that everything is green, click on ok to proceed
